ACCESSORIES

Let’s take a deeper dive into what accessories are installed on various aircraft. Most aircraft whether they are fixed wing aircraft or rotary wing aircraft, have a good mix of these components. While these accessories vary from aircraft to aircraft in quantity, size and function there is no denying that every modern aircraft in operation today has many components doing various tasks.

Spherical Accumulator Operation

ACCUMULATOR

In the simplest terms, an accumulator provides supplementary hydraulic fluid or oil for use in emergencies or limited periods of peak demand. The accumulator also absorbs surges or shocks in the hydraulic or oil system resulting from sudden changes in fluid flow or pressure changes. There are two types of accumulators in use today, spherical accumulators and cylindrical accumulators. Many aircraft have several accumulators each with a vital task.

PROP GOVERNORS

A Prop Governor is a device, often referred to as a constant speed control, which adjusts the pitch of the propeller blades automatically to maintain a constant engine speed under varying flight conditions. The prop governor operates by boosting the engine oil supply and providing it to the propeller to change the angle of the blades. There are may types of prop governors in use today, counterweight, hydromatic and double-acting hydromatic.
